I have a 2004 3 series compact, 1.8. Its done 110,000 miles and has been looked after well and is driving fine. It is loosing about a teacup of water per week, there is also a tiny bit of contamination on the underside of the oil filler cap and a tiny bit on the dipstick. it looks like white froth off bitter, its not a lot but there is a bit there. Could well be the start of a head gasket problem maybe ? Does anyone know if any radiator stop leak and engine stop leaks work - i was thinking of putting one in each and seeing if it might seal up any tiny gaps/leaks. Or if anyone has any other advice. Full set of 4 alloys in excellent condition. Image is of them still on my car today,come and see them and have a ride on the if interested. They will go straight on any 3 or 1 series. Tyres are 225 I think so give good ride and grip, they are not awful runflats tyres by the way. I just fancy a change.

I had a new radio fitted in my compact. After it was put in the air no longer is directed to the windscreen. I think the switch is activating the motors - but it isnt moving the air where it should. The car is steaming up. Heater is working fine, fan is working fine on all powers - its just not redirecting the air. Any ideas please ?

Main Dealer supplied BMW M-Sport Alloys. Made in Germany. These are from a 2006 low milage high end 3 series (62,000) - been on one car from new, used daily until 2 weeks ago. Excellent condition and finish on them, with good tyres on all 4. These would have been an extra £900 as an upgrade option from new on the car. They are staggered like a lot of M-sport ones, with 255 on the back and 225 on the front. Better for looks and grip as BMs are rear wheel drive. Will fit any 3 or 21 series. This style is becoming quite rare, they look really sporty. Great set of alloys and tyres. Pics taken by myself of actual item for sale. Not done many miles at all as were 2nd set - about 15,000 only. Alloys are in superb condition with a really nice finish on them - all tyres have plenty of tread left on them. 3-4mm They are a matching branded set of 4 tyres all round GISLAVED, EuroFrost3 - 205 / 55/ 16 made in Europe. The winter tyres do make a big difference to any rear wheel drive car in winter, especially in the snow. They come complete with all the centre boss caps. Will fit any BMW i think - 3 series, 1 series or 5 series. Cost new from the dealer would be over £600 - so they are a genuine bargain.

I have some 17 inch alloys i need to refurb and put on my 1.8 2004 Compact. Does anyone have any reccomendations regarding what filler, primer and spray would be a good brand to use. Ive got some 800 and 80 wet-and-dry paper to rub them down with, and also a small detail sander and a little dremmel tool thing if i need it. Any other tips or hints welcome.

Hi Ive just bought a 318 Ti Compact - 2004. Great little car. The first thing i want to do is put in a double din / sat nav / dvd / radio head unit, I believe i have to relocate and move down the air/con heater control panel - remove the existing radio panel, then the double din unit slots into the two top slots. Seems fairly simple. I dont have an existing satnav stuff or autochangers in the boot i dont think. My main question is this - Am i better off getting a second hand BMW double din head unit that does all this ? - or am i better off buying a new unit from a 3rd party brand, ive seen ones that seem to run almost like an android or windows tablet with a touch screen - if i do get one of these is it better to get a windows one or android ? I will be using the sat nav regularly, and also wanting to play CDs and audiobooks as MP3s via a USB stick, i also listen to TalkSport a lot so if it had a DAB radio that would be good. If anyone has done this and has any advice on what model to get, what to steer away from and where to get things please let me know - any advice welcome. Im also planning on fitting it myself to keep any costs down.

Hi Ive just joined the forum after purchasing a 2004 Compact 1.8 a few weeks ago. Im no stranger to BMWs as i had a couple of E36 3 series models about 15 years ago. In the past 10 years Ive had 2 Alfa 156's - which were great to drive but the last one died on me on MOT day a few weeks ago. So Im now driving a silver 318 Ti Compact and I really like it, it has done 90,000 miles but has its full service book, all jobs have been done and it has had its oil changed every 7,000 miles. Hoping to post a few questions about some upgrades and modifications i want to do to it straight away.
