Hey guys,

I was at Santa Pod on Sunday, as you all know, and.. I was watching that chick drive that Chevy Nova and it got me thinking. I love american muscle like, with a passion. I guess my love for the E28 branches from the fact it looks the closest to american muscle to what BMW can offer me (Plus I LOVEEE BMW. Father like son). Basically I want my BMW to have a rough idle and sound as close a muscle car as I can get using this baby M20 engine =D.

I've done my research and apparently, rough Idle is achieved by offset camshaft lobes. By overlapping the intake/exhaust valve opening times more, you can achieve a 'rough idle' which is what I want. Can this be achieved without changing my camshaft? If so, How? Are there anything I can do myself to achieve that 'rugid' sound?

Appreciate all your help,

Daz

btw.. Better known as 'choppy Idle' =D

Hope someone can help,

Daz

Advance/retard the timing chain/belt

Advance/retard the timing chain/belt

How can I do that without mashing the engine up? how do I know when I have too much advance or too much retard?

I'm considering a new CamShaft. Good idea? that is bound to make my engine sound like its running on porridge right? I emailed 'CatCams' and I got THIS reply:

Hi,

1300527 should give you a nice lumpy idle.

The price for a cam is £263.12 + Vat

p.s. The '1300527' Camshaft specs can be found here: http://www.catcams.co.uk/acatalog/BMW_M20.html

Thats a bit rich for a "lumpy ride" mate !!!

Here's a tip... Put a gallon of Diesel in it

(I'm no help, am I )

HAHAHA! If I plug the hole in my cylinder head, put this engine back to together and fill the tank with lighter fuel and see what happens!! I have nothing to loose... Getting new engine :P

Lol, Nah, thinking you'll just need a good cylinder head to complete.
