Afternoon all,

I am looking at buying my first BMW, with a recent change of jobs i'm looking for something more comfortable when covering my 100 mile round trip commute each day. (more comfortable than my focus c max!)

I have my eyes on a 318d SE 58/2009 plate which has done 108k miles, it's in a local garage so will have the 'usual' service, years mot etc..

It drives really well with no knocks or bangs, rattles etc but there is a whirring/hollow sounding noise that seems to come from the passenger side front area? It isn't an engine noise as its there when coasting, doesnt change with revs but does seem to change with speed and breaking? It sounded like a bearing but the garage have checked this out and the bearing is fine, they said its road noise which i don't believe being its just noticeable from the passenger side?

I have read some horror stories regarding timing chains failing etc so was wondering if anyone could advise me on what i should be looking for!

Thanks, Jay
