Hi,

I have a BMW 1 series 118i petrol and have just noticed that it looks like something has been removed from the engine compartment but can't seem to find an answer on the WEB.

Any advise?

i think the item that goes there is called secondary air pump or something like that , is function is to get the catalytic converters up to operating temperature faster on start up

Thanks DMW.

Would this effect power? Would it have been removed as part of a recall? Its an 05 plate but has spent most of its life parked or short trip as its on just done 20k miles (genuine) from new from a BMW dealer in Croydon.

Seems odd that it looks to have had something there and now its not. Unless they have used it as a donor part for another car and

by-passed my one.

this engine is fitted to e46 as well and i just checked in the work shop book i have.

i think it should be fitted to your model because if bmw had removed it they would not have left the bracket behind.

on performance it should have no effect, but it is to make the cats heat up faster, so with it not fitted can it damage the cats?

So worth getting it put back then? Cheap or not?

ok just read in the manual for the e46 "the system is only actice during cold starts (up to 33c coolant tem) and only operates for 2 minutes"

so should be ok

Ok Thanks for your info DMW.

I will have a word with the garage where I got it from. They're pretty good so hopefully, as I've just got it, they should be able to sort it for me.

Thanks again.

cool
