  1. Hi I have a 118d with the n47 engine. I recently had my timing chain replaced due to the dreaded rattle/knock. I phoned around loads of garages for quotes all coming back with prices in the range of £1200-1500. I then received 2 different quotes from garages in South Wales both in the region of 800-900. I just thought it was strange that everywhere else was so expensive then 2 garages from the same area were soo much cheaper. So my question is what is going rate for a timing chain replacement in other areas of the UK. I ended travelling to South Wales and in fairness can’t fault the garage they had my car complete and back to me within a few days and only cost me £855.
