I've got the basic business, I've already connected a stereo, but having display issues so thought I'd put it back in, will both cables need fitting or just the little one as main one is fitted in new stereo

I've read that you can put the mid display unit in the glovebox after a stereo upgrade, anyone done this, or any instructions how to

Hi all, I've just upgraded my stereo to a double din, on my X5 e53, done all the fittings works fine, I was aware that I would lose use of the trip computer (stop watch etc) but my odeometer and temp has disappeared from my display, but bottom part still tells me range etc is this normal?
