Thanks and sorry for late reply. If you could please send me details of the guys near you I would be happy to make the drive and save all that money. I have tried but cant seem to find anyone in Sussex and Kent isn't that far away!

Thanks guys. If anyone knows a good guy who works in South Est, please pass on any details/links. The £1000 figure was a BMW specialist. He said new unit is £700 plus vat and £160 to fit so that's where I got the grand from. Charlie

Hi Everyone, I have been driving mercs for the last 7 years or so but last week got my first BMW. A 54 plate 645ci and so far I am wishing I made the move years ago. The car seems fine as in all the service checks are clear with nothing needed for quite a while. The only thing wrong is the idrive that is a bit glitch and may need changing. I guess if I pay the £1000 or so cost I will get the latest version does anyone know? Best, Charlie
