  1. Hi Richard Welcome to the Forum Sounds like BMW have decided you shouldn't go near any dirt or mud in your 220i Touring 🤣 That leaves little choice really. have you thought of checking Mud Flaps from either the 1 series or 3 series cars it may be they can be modified to fit ? If not it means the after market accessories have you Googled to see what if anything comes up Good Luck with the search Dave
  2. Hi Stuart Welcome to the Forum Mtec with Mintex Pads always good value as are Apec, then there is Brembo discs and pads It depends if your only doing the Front or the whole car there are often some good deals to be had. Don't ignore your Dealer they often can be competitive and don't think the Auction sights are always the cheapest check the Factors as well. Use www.realoem.com to get part numbers and then use Google to find the best deal Good Luck Dave
  3. Morning Rob Welcome to the Forum Our son inlaw has an Induction charger in his 3 series it looks very "OEM" and seems to work well. It sits below the radio centre console where the ashtray would be I don't know if it was in the car when he got it or if he had it fitted ? I will ask him and let you know Dave
  4. A loss of oil isn't good depends how long the engine was driven with low oil? Good Luck with the replacement Dave
  5. Morning William Welcome to the Forum That number sounds like a BMW Dealer quote ? Who diagnosed the fault ? What engine ? Remember BMW don't make Turbo Chargers they buy them in. If you haven't already talk to a Turbo specialist, well more than one so you get a good comparison on cost/warranty etc. Engine damage will occur if the turbine on the inlet disintegrates sending debris into the engine iif your lucky it will be the exhaust turbine thats gone Dave
  6. Morning John Welcome to the Forum I believe you should be able to change that in the iDrive menu. Unless you have an import from Japan then it could get more complicated Dave
  7. Hi Paul Last set for the X5 were from Euro Car Parts by QH Disc's and Pads around £100 if my wallet remembers correctly Dave
  8. Morning Darren I brought mine a few years ago (2009 if I recall) through Ebay. Make the checks mine was from a UK seller with good feed back who also offered back up. Before that I used BMW 1.4.0 (still have it on the same laptop) Where ever you buy just make the normal sensible checks to make sure you will have support if needed Dave
  9. Morning Darren The obvious one is BMW ISTA/INPA not the cheapest but by far the most comprehensive and gives Dealer level access. Require a little patience to master but well worth it (my opinion) Then there are systems by Autologic, iCarsoft, Bimmerlink and Foxwell, all work well but are not as comprehensive as ISTA/INPA (mine has WIS and TIS). There are also a few systems which are Subscription led such as Carly Personally if I have tools I want to own them not rent them so I prefer to buy the complete package (on an old laptop that lives in my garage I have Diagnostics programs for Volvo, Merc, VW, and BMW. Plus an Autologic scanner and a BMW iCarsoft scanner (I am a born tinkerer and a boy needs toys) One diagnostic session at a Dealer will probably cost close to £200 plus any remedial work they can recommend?? So owning your own which will allow adaptions, registration and reprogramming work to be carried out will save £££ in the long run. Good Luck Dave
  10. Morning Darren Transfer case oils changes will need the adaption rest and any fault codes recorded cleared. More registration than coding any good BMW capable diagnostic scanner should be capable Dave
  11. I would guess £500 + + from a Dealer so not exactly dear if yours isn't working 😁 Check www.reaoem.com either search by Vin number then through the sections or by the Part number you have. If you aren't aware double click the part number and you should get a list of alternates. Then check the normal Auction sites but don't forget there is a healthy BMW Specialist dismantler network they may help Dave
  12. I would start with the Antenna get the Part Number from the one in the car or www.realoem.com and find a replacement Changing it will take around Half an Hour reprograming your Keys about 5 to 10 mins Or if your a real Tinkerer you could take the Antenna out open it up and see if you can fix it Dave
  13. Morning Chris Welcome to the Forum How frustrating, but if I remember back in the 70's British Leyland would have happily delivered the car warts and all 🤣 (I had a couple) Good luck keep nagging the Dealer Dave
  14. Morning John Karl For me that would indicate either an ABS sensor is down or the ABS controller has a Fault (not unknown) There are several companies that repair the ABS controllers at a reasonable cost and Warranty their work, the controller can be removed without disturbing the Brakes. An ABS sensor is around £20 make sure the reluctor ring is clean and not filled with crud (seen that a few times) fiddly to clean but worth it. Google will help with test procedures for ABS Sensors Don't know what system you brought locally but it seems to have moved you forward so Good Buy Dave
  15. Morning Lee Brilliant information and that you actually got there, Why oh Why do they make it such hard work for the Customer !!! When towing in the UK we are restricted to a Max 60 on Dual carriageways and Motorways. When towing I pull a Horse Trailer with a couple of fat horses on board and touch wood never had an issue. Enjoy your Beemer and Winnebago Dave
  16. Morning Christopher Oh dear !! Sounds like Trans Fail Safe has been triggered Causes could be Low Trans Fluid could be a Solenoid sticking could Torque converter related could be a Mechatronics unit issue ZF who make the transmission in your car recommend service at 60 to 100k so due by your mileage. Find a good Trans Specialist they should be able to scan the box update the software and service it (just make sure they use the correct ZF Longlife Fluid As a comparison my E53 4.6is with Dinan cams and throttle body (400 + hp) is on 164k it gets a hard life when it's driven and is smooth even under hard acceleration but has been serviced (last one flush as well) Dave
  17. Hi John Karl Welcome to the Forum First the 4x4 light can be triggered by several things, Low Battery voltage, ABS sensor faults, Steering angle sensor. However the fact it is combined with Trans Fail Safe which locks the transmission in 3rd is more of a concern. I would carry out a Diagnostic Scan (as you seem to have a collection hopefully you have a BMW capable scanner) Clear down any codes then rescan to see what if anything comes back. The Red Tyre symbol is tyre pressure the E53 used the ABS system to measure rotation a flat tyre will rotate at a different rate and trigger the warning. With luck replacing a failed ABS sensor will sort the problem. Check Google for ABS sensor tests You don't say how many miles are on the car or whether there is any evidence of transmission services being carried out. I would change the fluid and filter as a matter of course, which hopefully will get you back running properly if not you may need a Transmission specialist to help which could get expensive Fingers crossed its the simple fix Dave
  18. Yay well done Alex Like I said our "Go to man for Diesels) Now you can enjoy your Beemer again Davve
  19. Glad it worked 😃 Try (if you aren't already) www.realoem.com for BMW parts numbers some times it takes a visual search of the sections as I don't think it would find Gizmo 🤣 Dave
  20. Morning Jeffrey Welcome to the Forum I believe they call that a buffer stop BMW used them on several models so should not be that hard to find. One of our Z3/4 drivers may be along to confirm Hope this helps your search Dave
  21. Damn Smarty !! Fingers crossed for you Alex
  22. Hi John I am not aware of Right Connections worth a Google search to see if their kits are "Universal" or Specific to a model The local Company I used (Tanfield Towbars) ordered in the Oris kit for the X5 and it came with the loom complete It just needed plugging into the PDC controller and registering to the chassis. If the trailer plug is connected to the car the rear PDC is disconnected but the rear view camera is still in use. I would think any competent Towbar Specialist would know how it all goes together and how it should work Dave
  23. You will become our go to man for Diesel fuel systems 🤣🤣 Fuel pressure sensor on the HPFP is just about all that is left Dave
  24. Morning Steve Welcome to the Forum If your car didn't have Bilstien as OEM it will not accept the inserts Start with www.realoem.com put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your Model. Then search the relevant sections the small exploded drawings are useful for identifying where stuff fits and how and the part numbers are good for Googling the best source/price etc. If you double click the part number it will bring up any alternatives/models parts were used on. Good Luck Dave
  25. Rants are part of the analysis process ( normally with me it ends with "how did I miss that) so Rant on matey 😅 You are probably on the money with one of the New parts having a fault. One of our sons friend had a problem that was down to the "O" ring seal on the fuel rail pressure sensor. The sensor was new and was fitted by a Garage that had carried out the work similar to yours, car started fine was driven home and sat on his drive for a coupe of days then wouldn't start ?? The Garage due to pressure of work couldn't help for a few days that's when our son volunteered me. We started at the tank and filter and we worked our way forward it was when checking the fuel rail pressure sensor we found a small crack/split in the "O" ring it was enough to not let rail pressure reach and hold sufficient pressure The Garage supplied him a new sensor (FOC) we fitted it and after around a dozen or so cranks it fired up and touch wood is still running OK. His Garage had never seen it before nor had I and personally wouldn't have suspected such a tiny split could be the cause. Hope you find it soon Dave
