I believe they call that a buffer stop BMW used them on several models so should not be that hard to find.
One of our Z3/4 drivers may be along to confirm
I think Dave has hit the nail on the head with the name of this component

Hi...welcome to the Club
I have a soft top complete with the fabric (which isn't in too bad condition) but the rear screen needs replacing - you can have it free of charge and located in Bournemouth. Already removed from the car
You can get replacement screens to fit by yourself and a lot easier if you have the hood removed from the car already
-
By the sounds of it you are having major electrical issues with you Zed
I found similar issues stemmed from water collecting in the boot area (on the left hand side under some trim cover) removed the cover and found a pool of water that had flooded out the electronic components in there which control the alarm system so possibly start there

Yeh, that's not too dissimilar to mine when driven around town and put under hard acceleration.
Motorway is definitely better and can achieve high 30's at a slightly slower pace than everyone elseAlso, if you have the autobox version then this would traditionally return lower MPG than a manual (seems to be the other way now with modern autoboxes)
-
I have the 2.0 litre version and it returns on average 30mpg on extra-urban run.
Doesn't change much on motorway driving but tend to stick to around 60mpg as the 6 cylinder seems to enjoy those revs at that speed and being 23 years old there's little point in thrashing it to destruction.24mpg on semi-urban driving is not unreasonable for the 3.0 litre engine.
I assume yours has the 5 speed manual transmission? -
Hi Philip....welcome to the Club
You are more than welcome to advertise it through the Cars For Sale section of these forums
Also, eBay is a good method of selling but fees can be quite high and you would need to put a high start price on it and the drop it slightly if no responses.Feel free to add some photos of the Z3 if you want

Some awesome cars listed in your collections X5smw and Greydog
Triumph Herald as a first car, Singer Vouge but never got it on the road, Marina, Ital, Vitesse 2.0, 67 Mustang, 71 Mustang, Cadillac, and a few other yank tanks, Jag XJS, pretty much every Rover (modern range) including a 200 BRM (my favourite car ever) and loads of MGs (not so favourite), BMW Z3 which I still have and some Alfa's and numerous other cars which I can't remember and probably for good reason 🙂

Hi Bob
Dave's advice is absolutely correct when selling a car and especially a sports car with the lovely weather we're getting at the moment.
Two things to consider are that the car is possibly a Japanese import judging by the engine size (which didn't come into this country's domestic market until 2001/2002)
Another factor is that these cars are now rapidly appreciating so it may be better to put it in an auction or on ebay and let the offers build up over a time period.
You can set a reserve so that it doesn't sell less than a figure you have in mind that you would like for itFeel free to post up and advert in the For Sale section of these forums along with some photos of it

Hi Kev
I agree with Stu, my Z3 (2.0 litre 6 cylinder) did the same when the Cam Sensor went faulty.
You could change it to see if it makes a difference but I believe you will have two of them fitted, one for the inlet and one for the exhaust camshafts.
Other considerations could be the Vanos units playing up, seals gone and poor oil quality?
Check also if the fuel filter has been changed as if not then this can affect running as could the ignition coil so worth checking the plugs for condition and gapsIf the water pump has been replaced then there may some air trapped in the system, from memory there are some sneakily hidden bleed screws in the cooling system so worth measuring for cool/hot spots in the cooling system with an infrared temperature gun and bleeding the system if necessary

Sorry to hear about your health situation, been there myself 😞
Fortunately, the electrical gremlins are somewhat limited on the Z3 but easy to fix the odd one or two that raise their head over time (usually water ingress which causes the most issues)
When it comes to connecting the battery the advice you were given is correct and same apples to the Z3 which is in the boot so nicely located away from the engine bay heat

That's a fine looking SLK and fancied one myself years ago but believe they only ever came with an automatic transmission which I wasn't keen on.
The Z3 in my opinion is an all-rounder as it is based on the 3 series chassis and everything is built for reliability back then along with a basic level of comfort
Unfortunately, the Z3 is not a true sports car in as much as it is overweight and too soft on the suspension. However, it is an excellent tourer and I have taken my through Europe on marathon trips and it is effortless to drive along with returning a respectable MPG if driven respectfully
Go for it, dive in and experience one! Incidentally most of the body panel just unbolt so much easier to work on and parts are cheap and plentiful.
I put on some Pepperpot alloy wheels which are ultra-lightweight and give the car the classic look that I have been trying to achieve, also it runs on higher profile tyres which provide more comfort for my old bones but compromises the handling somewhat 🙂
P.S. I am considering selling mine soon or completely restoring it, not sure yet

Morning Len....welcome to the Club
I have owned my Z3 for about 10 years and been a completely loyal servant for all this time, never even broken down once!
Can highly recommend the Z3 of any size engine or body style.
Grab one now before the prices really shoot upAlso, virtually every job is an easy one with plenty of access throughout the vehicle.
What year is the SLK by the way?

Hi Darren.....welcome to the Club
I agree with Dave on the above. Have had calipers seize on me and has reduced the power significantly if the brakes are dragging.
The fuel gauge on the Z3's are at best an indication of what you have in the tank but this can change by the minute....wouldn't ever rely on the accuracy of that particular gauge

Use of an Airtag or Similar on the Key FOB ?
in BMW 4 Series Forum
An interesting topic, I have considering getting one for my motorbike key (cost hundreds to replace if lost) so at £35 for an AirTag it's worth a punt.
However, not sure how effective it is as it relies on Bluetooth and can only triangulate to a rough area then I guess it tracks more accurately once you are within that area.
Also, have read that some airlines won't let them be used when traveling as they can affect the plane's electronics.
Once I get one, will update this post to let you know pros and cons but I guess for that money it's worth a try as cheaper than replacing a key
