Hi all! I’m specifically looking at getting a 2018 X5 m30d in the 7 seater option (due to family size). I’ve driven BMW’s before (06 1 series, 06 5 series, 64 3 series GT, 19 3 series) but haven’t had one for the last 2 years. Need a size upgrade, and naturally want to come back to where I feel most comfortable, but partner is trying to steer me away from BMW’s, specifically a 2018. Reason I’m wanting this year is because it’s the last of the f15 gen so generally speaking most of the glitches and kinks would have been ironed out, and it sits right at that sweet spot for my budget. Also wanting the 30d as not looking for anything too powerful for insurance purposes and because with 4 kids in an SUV I’m not trying to drive like I’m in my 20’s anymore. Is there anything I should know going into this so I can be prepared (like common faults/failures etc), any tips or advice? Anything I should specifically look at/for when viewing and test driving? Ideally wanting something with less than 100k miles so I can get the BMW insured warranty on it - any options on if it’s worth it?

By the fact you want a Warranty tells me you are a DIY Home Mechanic 🤣

When buying any pre used car 1st Condition both inside and out take time and inspect it carefully. Wear on seats, seatbelts, Drivers seat squab pedal rubbers and carpets then last but not least the steering wheel. Check tyres are correct for the car and in good condition also wear is even. Mechanically service history (including gearbox diffs and transfer case) 2nd Make sure everything works as it should (remember some BMW Infotainment functions are subscription) Make sure everything works there wont be any cheap fixes 3rd Test drive make it a good one not a quick wizz around the block then if your happy Decision time.

As for Warranties there are several very good after market Warranty Companies obviously a BMW Dealer will recommend just one but remember it is Insurance backed that opens up garages, think of BMW Specialists normally BMW trained talk to them and see if they recommend a Warranty Com[any the same applies to Independent Garages
