Stereo cutting out

Recommended Posts

Hi there

I thought I would post this question as I couldn't find a thread with my specific problem but please point me in the right direction if this has been asked before.... smile.gif

I have a 2006 335i with the Professional head unit fitted and a Logic 7 amp which is cutting out.

When I start the car the stereo works fine on any setting (tuner, DAB, CD etc.). Then after about 5 seconds the audio cuts out (although the display is still lit up) regardless of which setting it is on. The silence then lasts for about 10 seconds, then it comes back on again for 5 seconds then off, then on etc. etc.

This lasts for between 2 minutes and an hour, after which the whole thing works perfectly for the rest of the journey. I have noticed that in summer it takes less time to settle down than in winter and if it is REALLY hot it may not happen at all.

I should add that the unit has Bluetooth and phone settings, neither of which work (although I understand that these are separate modules).

I bought a used head unit on ebay (identical apart from no bluetooth) and fitted that instead - result was the problem was the same and I cant believe that both units have exactly the same fault.

So what could the problem be and how do I go about getting it fixed? The local specialist wants £600 for a new amp (without seeing it) but is there a cheaper option?

A faulty IBS sensor has been suggested but since the power does not get interrupted I don’t think this is the answer

Thanks if you can help.

Morning Bill

Welcome to the Forum

First from your description and the fact a local specialist has quoted "new Amp" suggests he has seen it a few times before?

There are several companies that repair this type of Unit BBA Reman, ECU Testing and Cartronix are all people I have used in the past good turnaround.

However as the Amp is Plug and Play I would ask the Repairer for a cost and check it against second hand unit cost and maybe just change it and put your original unit back so you retain Bluetooth.
