Hi guys.... looking for some help and advise... sorry if posted in incorrect place but I’m new to this... I’ve just purchased a 118d 2011 LCI model.... it has parking sensors front and rear and shows up on I drive... however... I have a warning show up everytime I start the car and decided to investigate the front wires, behind the bumper!! The guy said he fitted upgraded headlights which he did but said he cut a wire for then parking sensors during this and that’s why I looked there... there are no wires attached to any of the from sensors.. he obviously just chucked them away ... and ideas where I can see a wiring loom diagram online and see how easy it’ll be to replace the loom and see where it plugs in??

Morning Russ

You say it shows on Idrive do the front and rear sensors show? Or just the rear do the rear ones work?

I ask in case the previous owner has had a crash and replaced the bumper and headlamps himself? A possibility

If he has been a complete plank and cut wires has he stuffed them back somewhere in the engine bay. I would look carefully.  Use www.realoem.com it is a BMW online parts list, if you put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box then it will bring up your model. Then look for what you need check carefully several section Electrical, Vehicle Trim etc, they tend to hide stuff!!

There should be information on replacement looms plus small exploded drawings to give clues on fitting

Good Luck

Dave

Thanks Dave, will have a look at that site... yes front and rear comes up on Idrive and after I posted the message I took the bumper of and yep .... he’s been a plank... just removed the whole loom and obviously chucked it... will look and get replaced.... on another note.... the car went into garage just 4 days after me picking it up as just wanted to know if the service that was done and stamped in book before I collected the car was in fact done ( if your know what I mean!!) the garage called back and said all good, except the battery isn’t fully capable of allowing the start stop fungi on to work.. I said just put new battery on.. got a call the next morning to say slight problem, when they replaced the battery it fried the front footwell module!!! Been sent of for repair but god knows what’s happing!!  Garage has had the car for over a week now and I’m hoping tomorrow I’ll get a call....

Morning Russell

That should not happen unless someone did something really dumb!! Remember the stop start function batteries are a special unit due to the cranking they have to support, also the battery must be registered to the car to allow correct charging (under or over charging can kill batteries very quickly) Footwell modules take a battering and there are several specialists out there who repair them so you should be OK. If not a second hand unit can be used but it will need coding to your car, not a difficult process with the right software. In fact the last one I did took longer to change the module than code it, at lot of garages and BMW will tell you it cant be done, they are wrong.

Fingers crossed your back on the road now

Hi again Dave.... the story continues.... so the garage removed the footwell module and arranged with a company to repair and return for it to be fitted... the garage was given a choice of either sending the item or the company could arrange a courier for a set price to include courier,  repair and return... don’t know how much the garage was paying simply because I never asked as I wasn’t paying... they chose to let the company arrange DHL....  cut a long story short.... DHL lost the package.... took nearly 2 weeks of going forward and backwards between the garage, the repairers and dhl.. repeat that a few dozen times and you can imagine my frustration!! Anyway!! Finally got confirmation from the repairers that the cars going into Bmw Friday morning for a new module and coding and will be returned Friday afternoon... at their expense of ...............£1800 plus vat!! Reallyyyyyyyy... wtf.... apparently they are claiming against DHL who have also agreed to cover the cost!! At least it won’t cost me!!

Morning Russell

What a saga !! Still you get a new Footwell Module at no cost to you other than the frustration

No doubt BMW will have told your garage only their Dealers can code the new FCM and register it to your car.

Still maybe now you will get to enjoy your Beemer at last

Good Luck

Dave
