BMW X5 4.4i humming sound

Hi,

Just bought the above and just wondering if it is normal to have a very slight hum at lower speeds and then up to 60. almost as though its at the end of the rev range before auto gearbox change. It is barely noticeable its just the car is so quiet overall especially at 70 and I'm going through the paranoid new owner phase? Obviously it is raucous when you floor it.
