E90 335D Help!

Hey everyone,

I have recently viewed a 2007 E90 335D and paid for a pre purchase inspection. Upon the mechanic inspecting the vehicle, he has noticed one of the rear coil springs is not sitting at the correct angle. I am confused as to whether the coil spring simply needs reseated or if it could have potentially caused damage above the mount for the spring. I have attached a photo of the spring. Any help would be appreciated?

Morning Andy

That is not standard, take a look at www.realoem.com I would say someone has fitted an adjustable spring lowering kit. Looking at your pictures something is out of kilter particularly if the other side is straight ( you don't say)

My first thoughts are if whoever the last owner was has fitted a lowering kit, how hard have they ragged the car generally especially as it doesn't seem to have been well fitted.

Hey Greydog,

Your response is much appreciated. Yes the car has been fitted with a set of coilovers unfortunately. I asked a Mechanic in Belfast and they seemed totally oblivious to why this has happened or how to fix it (morons over here unfortunately).

I was hoping I can revert to original rear springs without a massive job and heard about top strut mounts can fail when fitting these stupid coilover kits.

I have money to cover repairs on the car, but don't want to be spending massive amounts on this one issue if I can avoid it?

Morning Andy

I would be asking for the cost of replacement from the seller. That way it saves your wallet and your contingency money.

Reverting to standard set up should be straight forward though you may need quite a few parts (look at realoem) I would also budget for replacing all bushes at the rear while the work is done. Also get a full all wheel alignment done.

Hey Dave,

Once again thanks for the response. The car is going into the garage on Monday for a few jobs to get done and also look at the suspension. Fingers crossed it will be a simple repair. I will update once I know exactly what. Pray to God that it's a small repair as this car is definitely going to be a money pit lol 😂😂
