Hi...welcome to the Forum

Here's a link to Castrol's Oil Selector...which should give you the capacities along with the oil specs

https://applications.castrol.com/oilselector/en_gb/c/search?_ga=2.6749489.2038759672.1526026390-2076720229.1526026390

Good to have you onboard

Cheers   Trevor

Hi Trevor,

Thanks, for the link, but it doesn't actually say anything about actual capacity / amount required ..... I've managed to speak to Opie Oils, who state 6.5L

   Regards

Hi Greydog

Thanks very much, most useful. Oil change done. Although the BMW parts person gave me a pollen filter instead of the Air filter !!!! Had a result though when I went back to point out their error, and in changing over they gave me the Air Filter for the same cost saving at least a £10er !!!!

Result (not often you get one in your favour)

I use www.realoem.com its a BMW parts list (if your not already aware) for all models put the last 7 digits of your Vin in the search box and it will bring up your specific model. Lost's of information and exploded drawings that help, I also use Pelican Parts an american site they are useful for "how too's" with pictures maybe not much use to you as the cousins across the pond still think a diesel is a truck!!

Enjoy your car

Dave

Thats what I thought although the castrol link kindly shared says 7.0 litres?

My opinion Castrol are selling oil, if you ask them why they quote more than the manufacturer they will tell you its for "topping up"

When the Dealer was servicing the X5 I always had a pint of oil left in the Boot the car never used or lost any so it would be there at next service they always left it regardless always saying it's for topping up?? Three guesses who was paying for it?? Once the Warranty was out I use a BMW specialist who uses the correct amount (no top up bottle) he is an ex BMW master tech so knows what he is doing (I hope) I also do interim changes at home as I have never trusted extended service schedules.

Hi all,

Don't use 5W-30- this is bmw own brand oil spec. Castrol - bmw approved spec.is 5W-40 for 335d 3L engine.

Pour 6L in the first instance, start the car, rave the engine to 2000rpm. Turn off the car, add 300ml. and go for 15 min.drive.

Once you've done this, go to iDrive settings-oil, run check the engine oil level. Takes few sec.for the computer to complete the check. Once it's done you will see the oil level on the display. You could pour more if needs be. Go by 100ml. until you reach the proper level. ( You must take into account that when changing the oil there will be always some old left in the engine, so make sure you don't overflow.)

Morning Archie

Welcome to the Forum

Great information thanks for posting.

Me I am one of the OLD lucky ones who still has a dip stick (why oh why take it away) so topping up or oil changes are simple
