Mobile Phone Connection
My Fold 7 usually connects straight away when I get in, however every now and then I have to select android auto on the idrive to get it to connect. It may do this because I open the car to put dog in then go back in house with phone in pocket and it drops connection, yet other times I do it and it re-connects straight away. Does your work phone have a higher profile order than the personal one? With regards to digital key, do you need/have BMW digital key set up card? Video here Found this: Creating Driver Profile A driver profile is created or via iDrive: 1. "CAR". 2. "Driver profiles". 3. Move the Controller to the right. As an alternative for Steps 1 to 3, the profile image can be tapped in the top status bar. 4. "Add driver profile". ConnectedDrive countries: An existing ConnectedDrive account must be assigned to a driver profile. If a ConnectedDrive account has not yet been created, the account can be created via a smartphone. A QR code will be displayed on the Control Display for this purpose. The creation of the driver profile can continue with the access data of the created ConnectedDrive account. Selecting recognition The settings for the recognition are entered via iDrive: 1. "CAR" 2. "Driver profiles" 3. Move the Controller to the right. As an alternative for Steps 1 to 3, the profile image can be tapped in the top status bar. 4. "Driver recognition" 5. Select the desired setting: "with vehicle key". The vehicle key that is recognized in the car's interior is assigned to the driver profile. If multiple vehicle keys are detected, the unintended vehicle keys must be removed from the car's interior. "With Digital Key". The digital key that is recognized in the car's interior is assigned to the driver profile. If multiple digital keys are detected, the unintended digital keys must be removed from the car's interior. 6. "Activate linkage" As soon as the vehicle detects the vehicle key or the digital key, the corresponding driver profile will be activated. If the vehicle key or the smartphone with the digital key is not carried with you or the vehicle key or digital key is not recognized, the driver profile can only be selected on the Welcome screen when a PIN has been set up. Setting up a PIN A driver profile with recognition cannot be activated without vehicle key and without digital key. In this case, a PIN can be set up to activate the driver profile.

green spots on soft top
HI, I clean, colour and proof the soft top once per year but have recently noticed some green spots appearing on it. Is there anything that is especially effective at lifting these out. Any advice gratefully received.

Knocking sound from front left side
Morning Malcolm Welcome to the Forum First check is does your car have VDC suspension ? Next check what was its year of manufacture to check model E70 F15 or F85 ? All 3 are possible for a 2014 registered car. If E70 the top mount has for want of a better description a couple of spongy washer like pads, they just fail and you get a knock sometimes when turning easy check under the centre nut of the top mount there is a big washer under that is the sponge/fibre pad easy to see and not hard to change. F15 and F85 don't have them but worth checking the top mount anyway If it's a rotating knock also worth checking the front drive shaft Good Luck tasty motor by the way Dave

2009 650i coolant transfer pipe leak
Morning John Welcome to the Forum Did a few of these on 2000 to 2005 V8's (including my own 4.6is) but not seen one for a long time from memory the only successful fix was to replace the sealing rings and in one case the aluminium pipe work as it had been damaged previously. I have not heard of a "quick fix" I am afraid I would start with a search of realoem and study the drawings carefully, also if you can get access to ISTA or INPA check out the WIS (Workshop Information System) Good Luck Dave

2009 650i coolant transfer pipe leak
I have a 2009 650i that I just got and it has a coolant leak on the coolant transfer pipe that runs through the valley of the engine basically from the front side to the back and I've been looking at fixing it and at first it looked like I was going to have to remove the intake manifold and timing cover and a whole bunch of other stuff but after some research there's also a collapsible pipe and this other kit that you put an aluminum pipe through it or something I'm just wondering if anyone else has run across this problem I hear it's pretty common and if so is there any easier way to fix that or anything that you guys might be able to tell me. Thank you.

Knocking sound from front left side
Knocking sound from front left side on my BMW X5 M50d first thought it might be a bush or bearing problem but had all replaced including bottom and top arms plus drive shaft but it's still there I think now it's a drive shaft problem because in slow traffic I get a clunking sound as if something is loose.

Droning noise
Hi folks Got a 2014 X3 30D with 81000 on the clock. It has recently developed a droning noise most audible when I take my foot off the accelerator. It's not wildly loud. There's no grinding sound or anything like that. I've had the bearings checked on all wheels and they are fine. Any ideas please ?

Recall letter
I just got one for my Porsche cayenne… it needs a plastic sleeve replacing on rhe gear stick…. if it’s like my bmw recall, they will give it a good valet for free too! 😂 also, make sure you get the recall done and documented as I have heard of insurance companies not paying if there are recalls which you have not had done.

Recall letter
Morning Paul I had a similar conversation with our local Dealer a few months ago after receiving a Recall Letter edged in RED and contacting them to be told we will book you in but it may be a while as we are waiting for parts ?? It actually took 2 months (EGR recall) Unfortunately for the Dealers while they are aware of a Recall Program they don't control the stock to carry out the work or the sending of the letters bonkers really, they are also expected to fit in the work and not disrupt their normal service work. I also read recently (last week) that a Dutch company that supplies Micro processors to a huge number of Car makers in Europe and else where is closed at the moment due to US action after discovering they are actually owned by a Chinese consortium. A lot more shortages to come me thinks Dave

Recall letter
I received a letter from BMW today recalling my 330i in order to replace the starter motor which in the worst case scenario could catch fire. I was wondering if anyone else had received one or is it just aimed at the 330i series or is it across all model ranges. I got in touch with my local dealership who took my car and contact details and informed me that they would get in touch once they received a supply of starter motors, but it would more than likely be at least a month or longer until I would hear from them. Would be interested to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Window tinting
Sorry for the confusion I haven't got a reversing camera I was going to fit one that actually goes with the boot handle not inside the glass, sound advice I'm paying for a professional install but as the car is from 2016 maybe best to go a few shades lighter?
-
Window tinting
To be honest, Limo only looks good if it’s done right. Any blemish or pitting on the window makes it look like a bin bag. The camera would only work if it was touching the window so maybe go a couple of shades less 👍🏻

2019 X4 M40i,Driving mode button not working
Welcome Trevor Try and check Check fuse F46 / F48 (glovebox) and F60 (rear right) first. Then Inspect for any signs of spilled liquid around the buttons. Also disconnect battery for 5–10 minutes to hard-reset modules. If nothing then can with diagnostic tool, look for “Switch Cluster” or “Center Console Electronics” faults. If still no lights or function, likely module failure or connector dislodged. Hope this helps

Window tinting
Thanks for giving me some insight, I will take the advice from the tint company for the front, I haven't as of yet got a camera in the back only sensor's would limo make it hard for me to see? Had tint before just never had the luxury of riding in something with limo

Window tinting
Hi James, enjoy your ride! remember when you go for tints, the car should already be tinted, so get the garage to meter the fronts with the film on the window otherwise it might fail. one of my mates got done for having legal tint film on tinted windows, which he didn’t take into consideration. for the back… limo black! 👍🏻

Window tinting
Hi, just picked up my 2016 f31 really pleased with it! It's in a dark blue and I'm having it tinted on Monday morning, I'm looking for dark rear and lighter (legal) front windows has anyone suggestions on what shade of tint is best? Want full privacy on the rear but still able to see and then obviously front legal but will still go with the back. Many thanks in advance
