  2. Thank you Dave. That indeed sounds like a good place to start. I will try and have a look. I also (now that I am in panic mode and reading everything!) saw a 'recommendation' on the last ' Service' that a 'Exhaust clamp exhaust flexi cracked-advise new clamp' was stated. This was done by the local BMW agent in Hungerford. The things seems doomed to failure!

  4. Hi everyone I have just removed an E30 external fuel pump and I cannot id the attached parts (see photo) I think one is a regulator and the other is maybe a filter or accumulator? I checked the haynes manual and the on line parts page but I couldn't find a reference to them!! So any help would be welcome
  5. Morning Bob Welcome to the Forum Ouch, I would begin by checking www.realoem.com (if you don't know about it already it is an online BMW parts list as used by dealers) put the last 7 digits of your Vin into the search box it will bring up your model then search for what you need. Once you have the part number then Google the part to get the best price/delivery I hope this helps Dave

  7. Hi Rob, yes I did get it sorted and it was the Bi xenon set up that Greydog alluded to in the earlier post. It was just my understanding of how the beam worked which was causing me the confusion. Apologies as should have responded quicker.

  9. Hi Dave, Thanks for all of that, very very helpful. I will be on it asap. Particularly the earths. Will check throttle body but I would have hoped it would have thrown a code or two at me if not functioning? When it does start, seems to run fine. Had another look this morning at the live data. Only 2 bar with ignition on. This did use to be 4 bar but I have just replaced all of the pumps and filters?? Cranking gives me about 20 bar?? Will come back once done. Thanks again Jon
  10. Hello fellow Bimmers I own a 645 Grand Coup 2013 model year. The driver side lock was acting up so I took it to a shop in Dallas TX. Two months later I am still waiting for this part that apparently can only come from Germany. The shop says the door cannot be put back as it is the controller for the locking system. Seems hard to believe but a rival dealership corroborates the story and I am not getting any response from BMW America Anyone had this issue before?
  11. I wouldn't be holding my breath for that Paul 🤣 Dave
  12. OK, update on slow water leak. An inspection found that the bottom main hose had developed a leak through a sensor which sits on top of it. Only became apparent when under pressure. All other sources are visibly clear, water pump gasketing etc etc , which is good news for me. Spring cleaning coming up and canvas roof to be done. Just working away bits of green algae with my trusted tooth brush first before recolouring and proofing the roof.
  13. Morning Audrey BMW have a Classic Car section who are normally very helpful but only history of service and repairs carried out at Dealerships will be recorded. So paper history is still important. You can also use a BMW Vin decoder to gain knowledge of the cars original spec at order/build Dave
  14. Yay great result Paul Plus the suns out (not sure how long) Dave
  15. Morning Paul Welcome to the Forum My bet would be the Diversity antenna has suffered water ingress (common at around your cars age) or the loom (left hand side) where the boot hinge is has a crack in one or more of the wires (less common). My money would be on the Diversity antenna try holding the key on top of the rear spoiler that sometimes works Remember if you change the antenna your keys will need to be re-programmed to the car. Use www.realoem.com to get the correct part number for your car then use Google to search for the part. If your antenna is not in to bad a state you could try repair specialists like Cartronix or ECU testing to see if they can fix it. Changed a few of these including my brother inlaws 😁 Good Luck Dave
  16. Morning Bledion Welcome to the Forum My brother in law has used a Company called GAD in Essex they are very knowledgeable worth a search and talking to them about what you want to achieve and of course how your wallet will feel afterwards 🤣 Dave
  17. Confirm repeated goes. The algae is usually quite deeply engrained so the hot soap and water does need to be used regularly with the said tooth brush. Once lifted you can also go over with a proprietary cleaner, I use the Renovo products and have done for 6 years now, cleaner followed by the colour and then the waterproofer. There are other products but these ones have worked for me. Do the roof twice a year and still I get some green spots so it is just one of those things running a canvas roof. Mind you using a cover in the winter probably does'nt help things but there you go.
  18. Thanks Dave, it is intermittent to be fair which could be explained by the caliper observation. Ill give them an overhaul in the spring and see if that changes anything and report back.

  20. Hi Lorraine Welcome to the Forum Sorry to say it may not be, though it does need investigation. If your lucky it may be a recall item though you should have received a letter You need the help of someone friend or Garage who has a BMW capable diagnostic program to check what is causing the issue. The Dealer will charge for diagnostics plus repair Dave
  21. Hey there! Sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating issue with your 2014 X3 TPMS system. It's great that you've already tried replacing the RDC module and using the Autel TPMS coding tool to register everything – driving several hundred miles without a hitch is a good sign. The recurring TPMS malfunction message after shutting off and restarting the car does sound like a memory issue, especially considering you recently replaced the battery and reprogrammed the sunroof. It might be worth trying a battery disconnect to reset the system and see if that helps. Sometimes, a full system reset can work wonders in clearing out any glitches. Additionally, double-checking all connections and ensuring everything is securely in place might also be a good idea. If the issue persists after the battery disconnect and reprogramming, it might be worth reaching out to a BMW specialist or dealership for further diagnostics. Hang in there, and hopefully, you'll have that TPMS system running smoothly again in no time!
  22. Hey there! Good morning to you too, and congrats on considering the 2018 220d coupe – sounds like a sleek ride you're eyeing up. Let's tackle your questions one by one. First off, regarding the timing chain issue, BMW has made improvements over the years to address any potential issues. However, it's always a good idea to do your research and perhaps ask the seller or a trusted mechanic if any specific updates or fixes have been done to the timing chain on the 2018 model. As for reliability, BMWs are generally known for their solid build quality and performance. With proper maintenance and care, they can be quite dependable. That said, like any car, they may have their quirks, so it's essential to stay on top of routine maintenance and address any issues promptly. When it comes to servicing costs, budgeting around $700 to $1000 per year for routine maintenance sounds about right for a car driven around 7000 miles annually. This would cover things like oil changes, filter replacements, and inspections. Of course, actual costs can vary depending on factors like your location, the condition of the car, and any additional services needed. Hope this helps, and best of luck with your decision!
  23. Hello dave, thanks for the useful information. the work has been traced with no lose wiring or connected wrongly. the issue is still ongoing of the engine rattling we believe now that a shortage has happened as we found a burn in the air condition power fuse as seen in the picture. That has now been change with still the same issue. I have also changed the DME but again nothing has changed. So we are now tracing the wiring harness to see where to shortage might have happened. would really appreciate if someone faced the same issue or how to troubleshoot this issue properly as i am kinda lost here on where to start again.
  24. Hi Ahmed, can't help with expected values but my dec 71 plate G26 420i Grand coupe has done 29,732 miles and not had to do the rear pads or a message, it's service due in sept. it had a service nov 22 with 17k miles and nothing for the pads needed doing then. it does sound dodgy that those would need replacement before the front. matt
  25. 26. Morning Darren I would change the Fluid and filter I put my X5's front on wheel ramps then jack up the rear and put it on axle stands to get it level. Tip make sure you can undo the Fill Plug before draining Then its a straight forward job make sure you have a couple of containers to collect the fluid there is quite a lot (or should be) At 115k I would think you should be OK just make sure you get the correct Fluid and filter. The only part you may need help with is the software updates a good Transmission Specialist should help talk to a few. Dave
  27. Morning Daryl Welcome to the Forum You say LPFP and Control Module have been changed ? With what ? Were the replacements new or second hand ? I did read a post sometime ago where issues were caused by the EKP unit over heating and rather than change the unit the owner fitted Heat Sinks It may be the controller is at fault Dave
  28. Morning Elijah Welcome to the Forum Normal things, does the cars general condition match the mileage. What is the service history (check it if you can) Make sure everything works inside all the switches and gadgets (there are no cheap fixes) Mechanically the BMW straight six is a strong engine it should be smooth and vibration/knock free, Gearbox is ZF and should have been serviced also if not it will need doing. Reading the add the guy sounds like a bit of a Trader so questions like is the title in his name may tell you more Good Luck Dave
  29. Morning Alan Welcome to the Forum Ouch, I guess if you have talked to BMW they have told you it will be £000 + fitting + setting up I would talk to one of the Specialist BMW Dismantlers (I have used Quarry Motors who are one of the oldest) check Google there is a Register I believe, also check the Auction web sites. Price I would think will still be between £400 and £600. Your old unit should have a part number on it use it when searching for a replacement, if the replacement has the same part number you may get away without any setting up through the diagnostics. If the replacement is not an Adaptive unit there may be all sorts of complications with the Cars software and headlamp controller not being able to see it. Good Luck Dave
